How Can I Do My Nails at Home Like a Pro?

The good news is just like so many other things the Internet has made things that were only available to professional available to everyone – both products and techniques to use them.  Nail Manicures at home are no different than anything else and all the products that used to be only available to pros are now available to you to use at home, and we’ll walk through what your options are.

First off, you can choose what kind of Manicure you want – Gel Polish or Dip Powder are the most popular choices for at-home. Nail Lacquer is an option of course, but is a very quick manicure and it doesn’t last long.  It’s been available as a home option for a long time and most women don’t need any training in it.

If you choose a Gel Polish mani you need to make sure have all the things you need – the big one for a Gel Polish kit is a UV/LED lamp.  You need a lamp to cure the Gel Polish, if you don’t have that you can’t do a Gel Polish manicure. In addition to the colored Gel Polish, you need to make sure you have a base coat and top coat – you need those 3 bottles of Gel Polish.  You need the light and 3 bottles, but you also need buffer block, nail file, cuticle pusher and other mani tools – one of the reasons your salon mani turns out so well is that the nail technician takes the time to prep your nails really well, which helps the manicure last longer.

You can get a Gel Polish kit with everything you need here:  https://www.revelnail.com/collections/build-your-own-gel-polish-starter-kit/products/build-your-own-gel-polish-starter-kit and the light is available here:  https://www.revelnail.com/products/spectra-uv-led-nail-lamp?_pos=1&_sid=14fa05002&_ss=r

If you want to do a Dip Powder manicure at home you will need a dip kit – it will have the 2 or 3 liquids you need, plus a powder.  Dip Powder manicures do not need a UV light like Gel Polish does, so if you don’t have one you don’t need to worry about it.  There is a base coast, an activator, and a top coat – the base and top can be used interchangeably , so some companies only provide one liquid and have you use it for both steps.  You’ll need the same prep tools as a you would with a Gel Polish manicure – buffer block, nail file, cuticle pusher, etc.

Once you have what you need, you just need to learn some.  You can buy swatch sticks so you can practice your technique until you get it right.  Typically the hardest part is using your weak hand to do the manicure on your dominant hand.  Once you mastered that you are going to be able to give yourself a salon quality manicure at home.  There is a ton of  is content on the internet for you to look at, but a great place to start is Revel Nail’s Youtube channel, it has a ton of content on it you can check out: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCSah9hRA_Q7eoMis8z6KgHw
